Colourfully Black was born from love, creativity, and a deep commitment to ensuring that Black children always feel seen, valued, and celebrated.

 

The journey began while I was searching for party invitations for my daughter’s birthday. Like any parent, I wanted something special something that reflected her joy, her beauty, and her uniqueness. But as I browsed through shelves and websites, I realised that nothing truly represented her as a Black child.

 

The most common children’s themes princesses, superheroes, animals and cartoons rarely included Black characters. There was nothing that celebrated her skin, her hair or her brilliance. What should have been an exciting experience instead felt disappointing. It was as though Black children, like my daughter, were invisible in spaces that are meant to celebrate them.

 

In that moment, I saw clearly how deeply underrepresented Black children are in everyday items designed to bring them joy. That gap sends a powerful message and I knew something had to change. So, I created what was missing.

 

What started as a search for the perfect invitation became a creative journey, and that journey became Colourfully Black a growing collection of products designed to uplift, affirm and celebrate Black children.

 

I began by designing invitations that featured Black children in joyful and empowering ways, but I didn’t stop there. Today, Colourfully Black offers a range of vibrant and meaningful products, including birthday cards, invitations, affirmation cards and empowerment journals.

 

Each product is thoughtfully created to inspire confidence, nurture self-love, and reflect the beauty, magic, and individuality of Black children.

 

Every child deserves to feel powerful, happy, secure, and worthy just as they are.
